Kantha is a running-stitch quilting and embroidery tradition from the Bengal region spanning eastern India and Bangladesh, where generations of women stitched worn cotton saris and dhotis into new layered cloth rather than discarding them. These earrings carry that same reuse logic forward: instead of quilting the old fabric, artisans cut it into small scraps and wrap each one around a wooden bead, so the leftover prints and colors of someone's former sari get a second life as jewelry.
Because the fabric comes from many different saris, no two beads match. A single hoop might carry a stripe, a floral, a paisley, and a solid color side by side, which is why the finished earrings read as a lively patchwork rather than a single printed pattern. That variation is the point of working with reclaimed cloth, not a flaw in it.
