  • Material: Sterling silver
  • Sizes: 7, 8, 9 (Slightly Adjustable)
  • Origin: Bali
  • Features: Handmade and artisan-created, intricate filigree design with beadwork and swirling motifs, wide band for comfort and style

design: A wide sterling silver band centered on a raised panel of swirling filigree scrollwork and fine beaded dots, flanked by smooth tapered edges that wrap and slightly overlap at the open back for an adjustable fit.

size: Available in sizes 7, 8, and 9; the open wraparound band is slightly adjustable within that range.

material: Sterling silver (.925), oxidized to darken the recesses and set off the raised scrollwork.

features: Handmade filigree scrollwork, hand-applied bead detailing, oxidized antique finish, wide band profile, open adjustable back

care: Store in a dry pouch away from moisture and perfume, and polish gently with a soft silver cloth to lift surface tarnish without flattening the oxidized detail in the recesses.

disclaimer: Because each ring is handmade, small variations in the filigree scrollwork and oxidized shading are normal and make every piece one of a kind.

The Story

This ring's swirling vine-and-scroll pattern, built up with fine soldered silver beads, is worked in the filigree and granulation style long associated with Bali, particularly the silversmithing village of Celuk in Gianyar regency. Generations of family workshops there have refined the technique of drawing silver into fine wire, coiling it into scrolls, and studding it with tiny granules of metal.

The open, curling motif across the band echoes the vine and leaf forms common to Balinese decorative metalwork, seen across temple ornament and ceremonial jewelry alike. Rather than a single fixed symbol, this scrollwork reflects a broader design vocabulary of growth and movement that Balinese silversmiths have applied to rings, cuffs, and pendants for decades.

The oxidized finish, which darkens the low points of the pattern while leaving the raised silver bright, is a deliberate finishing step that makes the fine wirework and beading easier to see and is a hallmark of Balinese silver jewelry sold both locally and for export.

A silversmith draws sterling silver into thin wire, then shapes and twists it into the scrolling filigree pattern by hand before soldering it onto a wider silver band. Tiny granules of silver are placed one at a time along the design and fused in place with a torch, a steady-handed process that can take hours for a single ring. Once assembled, the piece is oxidized in a solution that blackens the recessed areas, then hand-polished so the raised wirework and beading catch the light against the darkened background.

Questions & Answers

Is this ring real sterling silver?

Yes, it's crafted from .925 sterling silver and stamped accordingly, then given an oxidized finish to highlight the filigree detail.

How adjustable is the fit?

The band has an open back that allows for slight adjustment, but it's best to order the closest size to your usual ring size for the most comfortable fit.

Will the oxidized finish wear off over time?

The darkened recesses may lighten slightly with handling over years of wear, which is normal for oxidized silver; occasional gentle polishing of the raised areas keeps the contrast crisp without removing the finish from the detail work.

Will my ring look exactly like the photo?

It will be very close, but since each ring is handmade, expect small natural variations in the scrollwork and shading rather than a machine-identical match.

How should I clean it?

Wipe with a soft silver polishing cloth and avoid soaking it or using harsh chemical cleaners, which can dull the oxidized detailing.
