These petite crescent hoops carry the spirit of traditional Thai silverwork, featuring dotted patterns framed by a twisted rope border. Their oxidized finish gives them a timeworn beauty that blends old-world charm with everyday ease.

Design: Crescent-shaped hoops with raised dot motifs and twisted rope edge
Material: Sterling silver with oxidized finish for contrast
Size: 0.875" H x 0.8" W
Country of origin: Handmade in Thailand

Each piece is crafted by hand, and slight variations in detailing and finish reflect the artistry of traditional silversmithing.

design: A petite crescent-shaped hoop with a hand-stamped field of raised dots, edged all around by a twisted rope border, finished with a hinged snap closure.

size: 0.875" H x 0.8" W

material: Sterling silver with an oxidized (antiqued) finish

features: Oxidized antique finish, hand-stamped dot repoussé pattern, twisted rope border, hinged snap-back closure

care: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear and store in a fabric pouch or lined box to slow retarnishing, using a silver polishing cloth only on the raised areas so the oxidized recesses keep their contrast.

disclaimer: Because each hoop is hand-stamped and oxidized by hand, small variations in the dot spacing and depth of the darkened finish are normal and part of its handmade character.

The Story

The crescent, or half-moon, hoop is a long-standing silhouette in Thai silverwork, favored because its open curve leaves room for a dense field of hand-stamped ornament without adding weight. Here that ornament takes the form of a repoussé dot pattern, rows and clusters of small raised beads worked from the back of the sheet silver, a technique used across Thai silversmithing to build texture and light-catching detail without stones or filigree wire.

The twisted rope border framing the dots is another workshop staple: two lengths of silver wire twisted together, then soldered along the hoop's edge to contain the pattern and give the piece a finished, defined outline. Paired with an oxidized finish, which darkens the recessed dots while the raised silver stays bright, the combination reads as an intentional light-and-shadow effect rather than decoration for its own sake, a hallmark of traditional Thai silver craft.

Together, the dotwork and rope edge give a small hoop real visual weight, and the oxidized finish means the earrings arrive already looking lived-in rather than showroom-new, a finish achieved through the making process itself, not simulated wear.

A hoop like this starts as a strip of sterling silver sheet, shaped and soldered into the crescent form, with a separate length of silver wire twisted and fused along the edge to form the rope border. The dot field is worked by hand with steel punches, each dot struck individually into the silver to raise it in relief, a slow, repetitive process that depends on a steady hand and an experienced eye for spacing. Once assembled, the piece is darkened in an oxidizing solution and then hand-polished, so the darkening compound stays in the recesses while the raised dots and rope edge are buffed back to bright silver, bringing out the contrast that defines the finished earring.

Questions & Answers

What are these earrings made of?

Sterling silver with a hand-applied oxidized finish that darkens the recessed dot pattern while leaving the raised silver bright.

How do they close?

They have a hinged snap-back hoop closure, so they open and click securely shut without a separate earring back.

Will the oxidized finish wear off?

The darkened finish is worked into the recesses of the design and holds up well with normal wear, though like any oxidized silver it can soften over years of handling; treat the antiqued look as part of the piece's evolving character rather than something to be polished away.

Are they hypoallergenic?

Sterling silver (92.5% silver) is a good option for most sensitive ears, though anyone with a nickel or metal allergy should check with a doctor before wearing any silver alloy.

Where are these earrings made?

They're handmade in Thailand, using traditional silversmithing techniques for the dot repoussé pattern and twisted rope border.
