This jewelry is handmade in Colombia. Women living in low-income rural areas are trained to become expert artisans and employed in the production of each piece. Teaching techniques and improving skills allows these women independence and the ability to work from home.  This generates much needed revenue while making it possible for each artisan to provide for their families and enabling them to be present with their children and loved ones. This socially responsible practice is designed to support micro-economies and cottage industry in rural Columbia.

This bracelet's is embellished with sterling silver all along its band, like a line of teeth! Bracelet is adjustable and band measures .4 inches wide.

  • Black and silver sawtooth bracelet
  • Made of woven polyester fabric with sterling silver
  • Band measures .4 inches wide
  • Adjustable length
  • Made by women artisans in Colombia

Handcrafted: Artistically created by hand where beauty and imperfections go together wonderfully. Please accept and appreciate minor imperfections and variations which are true characteristic of this craft.

design: A black and cream diamond-patterned woven band framed on both long edges by a row of small sterling silver studs set close together like a line of teeth, finished with a sliding-bead cord closure.

size: Band measures 0.4 inches wide; length is adjustable to fit most wrists via the sliding cord closure.

material: Woven polyester fabric with sterling silver studs and closure beads.

features: Adjustable sliding-bead closure, double row of sterling silver studs along both edges, diamond-patterned weave in black and cream

care: Wipe the silver studs with a soft polishing cloth and keep the woven band away from water, lotion, and perfume to protect the fabric and shine.

disclaimer: Because the band is handwoven and each silver stud is set by hand, slight variation in pattern spacing and stud placement is normal and part of the piece's handmade character.

The Story

The diamond, or rhombus, motif running through this band's weave is a familiar language in Colombian textile work, where small repeating geometric shapes are built up thread by thread rather than printed or embroidered on top of the fabric. Getting the diamonds to line up cleanly across a narrow band takes a practiced hand and a steady tension on the loom.

Edging a woven band with a row of close-set metal studs is a way of dressing up cord and fiber work with the weight and shine of silver, without losing the texture of the weave underneath. Here the sterling silver teeth run the full length of the band on both sides, turning a simple woven cuff into something with real presence on the wrist.

Pieces like this one come out of a broader movement in rural Colombia to keep handweaving skills active and paying: women who already know needlework and weaving from their communities are trained further and given steady, paid orders, so the craft keeps circulating rather than fading out.

The band starts on a small loom, where an artisan weaves the black and cream threads into the repeating diamond pattern, working the polyester cord tightly enough to hold its shape on the wrist. Once the woven band is off the loom, each sterling silver stud is set individually along both edges, a slow, close-focus step done by hand, before the ends are finished with a knotted, adjustable cord and sliding silver beads. The work is done at home or in small groups by women artisans in rural Colombia, fitted around their family schedules.
